Terms

These are built into how stories publish, not promises in a policy. You can check every one of them on any story on the site.

• Every line in a story links to a real report from a named outlet. If the link does not resolve, the line is deleted before the story goes out. There is no way for the code to publish an uncited line.
• Nothing publishes on one outlet's word. A story needs 2 outlets that do not copy each other, and a confidence score of at least 0.45.
• Facts are checked against outlets we did not use to write the story. Anything they contradict is deleted, not published with a warning.
• The outlets behind a story are listed on it, and the full list — including where each one sits politically — is public.
• Where outlets disagree, you get both versions. We do not pick one and call it settled.
• Corrections are marked on the story. Pages are not changed quietly.

Story text is put together by software from other outlets’ reporting. No person reads it before it goes out. The guarantees above are about where facts come from and how they are checked. They are not a promise that every fact is right.

Software can misread a report. And a line can be cited correctly and still be wrong, because the outlet it came from was wrong.

So the source links are the authority, not our summary. For anything to do with your health, your money, the law or your safety, read the original report.

If something here is wrong, email corrections@example.com with the link. We fix it or take the story down, and we note the change on the page.

Factliner is for personal reading, as is. Please do not scrape it in bulk — there is a feed at /feed.xml for that.

The summaries here are written fresh and belong to Factliner. Headlines, article text and images from the outlets we cite stay theirs. Where we show an image we credit it and link to whoever ran it.

The email address you sign in with is yours to look after. Accounts used to abuse the site can be removed without warning.

As far as the law allows, Factliner is not liable for any loss that comes from using, or relying on, anything published here.
